VA News – Veterans can now check in faster with a simple scan of their Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC), eliminating the need to provide the last four digits of their Social Security number.

This update applies to all sites using the Federal EHR and reflects VA’s commitment to patient data security. Scanning a VHIC speeds up check-in, helps ensure the correct patient record is accessed, and provides a faster, safer, and more reliable visit experience.
