U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs– Serving as the only psychiatric social worker at the Veterans Hospital in Tuskegee, Alabama, Anna B. Raines created an early model of a home-based foster care system for veterans, preceding similar programs that were later adopted nationwide.

Twentieth-century social workers like Anna B. Raines were unsung contributors to the Veterans Healthcare System, bridging the gap between medical staff, veterans, and their families while helping ensure safe housing and access to essential needs like food, clothing, and medication.
